While the news often highlights foster parents using it as a means of income, most all the foster parents I know are hoping to be used rather than use. Some were thrust into the system as a child themselves and want to make the system better. Others love kids and see the need these kids have for that love. Many pursue it because of their faith and the call to care for orphans. Often it’s a combination of these motivations and many others.
Regardless of the reason we stepped toward foster care, I believe we are very much all in this together. We need to advocate for each other. And most importantly for these kids.
The Forgotten Initiative is a beautiful organization driven by faith and by advocacy. Specifically, it focuses on helping Christians help the foster care community. Christian or not, I encourage you to visit the site and see whether it could benefit you and your community.
